Vehicle Requirements for Crawler Class
1. Vehicles brief
1.1. Mufflers are required on all vehicles.
1. 2 All vehicles will be fitted with recovery points of a standard that will allow safe operation of vehicle recovery, and there will be a requirement of two at the front and two at the rear of the vehicle, that will be able to safely accept your recovery shackles. Vehicle tie down points are not acceptable recovery points.
1.3 All recovery gear including the recovery points must be rated to the entered vehicle.
1.4 All vehicles will need to have UHF radios.
1.5 Vehicle must have a minimum of 2 fire extinguishers of the powder type; One must be obtainable from the outside of the vehicle
2.1 AXLES
2.1 All Automotive based axles are allowed.
2.2 All forms of gear reductions are allowed.
2.3 Fixed and adjustable changes to the wheelbase are allowed.
2.4 All Axles will be leak free.
2.5 A vehicle will have full drive to all 4 wheels at all time.
2.6 All types of diff locks are approved.
3. BODY
3.1 The vehicle’s occupants must be able to easily exit and enter the Vehicle in any Position.
3.2 Body panels are not required, although bonnets and doors are not exempted.
3.3 All vehicles that have an operating door must have a positive locking latching device.
3.4 All doors must cover ¼ of the door jar. Window nets are compulsory
3.5 The vehicles occupants must have a fire wall between them and the engine.
3.6 All vehicles must have a fire wall between the occupants and the rear wheels.
3.7 All drive shafts must have a shield between the unit and the occupants.
3.8 No sharp edges are aloud, all sharp edges will be caped.
3.9 All spare parts and extra equipment must be securely stowed.
4 ENGINES
4.1 All engine modification is aloud.
4.2 All engine conversions are aloud.
4.3 All engines will be leak free.
4.4 The exhaust system will be suppressed.
4.5 Vehicles fitted with pressure tanks must be approved by the scrutineers. There must be a shield between the occupants and the tank
4.6 All exhausts parts will be shielded from the occupants.
4.7 Engine/motor mounts must be in good condition and of adequate material to support the engine.
5. Cooling
5.1: Radiators must be securely mounted and covered so that, in the event of a breakage, spectators, spotters and drivers are protected from the coolant spill.
5.2: Hoses and connections must be in good condition without cracks, all connections must have a tightening device that utilizes a mechanical means to secure the connection.
5.3 The cooling system must be in working order and leak free.
5.4 If the vehicles are fitted with a engine driven fan, a shroud must be fitted.
6. Electrical
6.1 Batteries must be in good shape with adequate mounting to keep the battery in place in the event of a roll.
6.2 Wires must be in a condition and position that is safe. Exposed or burnt wires are not approved.
6.3 A manual engine isolator must be fitted to the vehicle and will turn the engine off when applied.
6.4 The engine isolator must he mounted in easy reach of the driver or co – driver, it must be in a position that can be reached is case of a roll over.
7. Fuel System
7.1 Unleaded, leaded, lpg, and diesel fuels are approved.
7.2 Fuel lines must be free of leaks or cracks in hoses.
7.3 Throttle assemblies must be in good order and work smoothly. Throttles that do not move smoothly throughout their entire range of motion will not pass.
7.4 Fuel tanks must be sealed and not leak in a rollover.
7.5 Fuel Tanks must be securely mounted to the vehicle .
8 Seating
.8.1 Vehicle must have at least 2 seats that are securely mounted to the floor of the vehicle.
8.2 A minimum of a 4 point harness.
8.3 Harness must be fitted in accordance with ccda specs.
8.4 Each seat must have a harness.
9. Steering
9.1: All steering components, u-joints, and fittings must be in good working order as determined by an official.
9.2 All steering systems are approved.
9.3 Steering systems must have no fluid leaks.
9.4 All hi pressure steering components must be shielded from the occupants.
9.5 Rear steer is acceptable
10. Stickers
Teams may run their own stickers without restriction in size. Stickers may not use profanity or be of a crude nature. We will ask that all competitors run the event sponsor stickers and display vehicle numbers on the windscreens.
11. Suspension
11.1: Suspension pivot points, connecting points must be free of cracks and in good physical condition as determined by an official.
11.2 All suspension types are approved.
11.3 Bumps stop must be fitted.
12. Tyres
12.1 All tyre sizes are acceptable
12.2 Wheels and Tyres to be used in the comp will need to be at scrutineering for inspection. Including any spare tyres
12.3 Tire Studs, screws, snow chains, or anything added to the tire to aid traction are not
permitted.
12.4 All tyre types are accepted i.e. Comp spec, Agg tires.
13. Wheels
13.1 All steel and aluminum wheels are approved.
13.2 Bead lock wheels with locks on both the inner and outer side of the wheel or any combination there of are approved.
13.3 Wheels and bead locks must not interfere with the proper operation of brakes.
13.4 Wheels must be mounted onto the axle with a minimum of four lug studs.
13.5 All lug studs must have the proper nuts on them.
13.6 Wheel spaces are acceptable
14. Rollover Protection
It is each competitor’s responsibility to present a safe vehicle for technical inspection.
The Chief Scrutineer reserves the right to not allow any entrant to compete if he/she deems the roll cage not fit for competition.
– Material
All vehicles must be fitted with a roll cage manufactured from 1020 mild steel mechanical steel tubing or better (eg higher content carbon steel or alloy steel). Minimum guidelines for roll cage main structure (main hoop and pillars) are based on the dry vehicle race weight rating in race trim, not including occupants is as follows :
- Under 1000kgs 38mm O.D with 2.4mm wall thickness.
- 1000kgs – 1600kgs 38mm O.D with 3.0mm wall thickness.
- 1600kgs – 2000kgs 44.45mm O.D with 3.0mm wall thickness
- Over 2000kgs 50.8mm O.D with 3.0mm wall thickness.
Aluminum or other non-ferrous metals are not allowed.
– Roll Cage main structure material may be CREW or DOM mild steel or 4130 chomoly alloy steel. All welds must be of high quality and good craftsmanship with good penetration and no undercutting of parent material.
All roll cage components including, hoops, gussets and braces must have a minimum clearance of 75mm from any vehicle occupants helmet when the occupant is seated in the normal driving/riding position.All roll cage components that may come into contact with the vehicle occupants must be padded.Roll cages must be securely mounted to the frame, chassis or body.
1.1.1 Cab or body mounted roll cage must sandwich the body structure using a minimum of two 6mm thick doubler plates, one on each side of the body structure.
1.1.2 Minimum fastener spec for body sandwich plates is M10 class 8.8.
1.1.3 Welding of roll cage components to body structure is prohibited.
1.1.1 Roll cage sandwich plates are only allowed to be used in the horizontal plane. Gussets should be incorporated into the roll cage structure at joins.
1.2 All Vehicles – Shall have roof protection installed to protect the crew from intrusions, replacement roof protection shall consist of a 3mm minimum thickness aluminum or 2mm minimum steel panel extending from the full width of the vehicle from the windscreen frame to the roll over protection to terminate behind the heads of the crew .This plate is exempt from the padding clause
14.1 Both internal and external cages are approved.
14.2 An internal cage must be mounted to at least 6 points of the vehicle.
14.3 All external cages must be inspected.
Additional Requirements
One First Aid Kit per vehicle containing the minimum of a St Johns Ambulance Personal Car (Medium Kit)
Spill kits required. This consists of a non porous bag and shovel for clean up of any spill
All equipment will need to be securely stowed away.
Helmets will be required for both driver and navigator in all vehicles and will
need to have an Australian standards sticker inside showing expiry date. No helmet that has been repaired or is in poor condition will be acceptable.
